Are Roller Garage Doors best for security?

Security on the home seems to be one of the biggest concerns now a days and the roller garage door market understands this. If you buy a roller shutter garage door from a major known UK or European manufacturer you know that it will have been rigorously tested against break in but if you want added assurance and peace of mind you should look out for the police “secured by design” logo.

Secured by Design (SBD) was established in 1989 and is the title for a group of national police projects that focus on design and security within new or refurbished homes, as well as commercial properties and also car parks. The Secured by Design certification is an acknowledgement that the product is of high quality and meets a set of security and crime prevention measures. SBD supports the principles of ‘designing out crime’ through a set of physical security processes.
Secured by Design works with the Garage Door industry and they test houses with a range of Garage Doors to create high level security standards. SBD is an ongoing evolving process that responds to current and potential trends in crime, which as a result have given input on a number of key standards. The principles of the Secured by design scheme have been proven to reduce the risk of crime within the garage door industry, so if you are security conscious and want the highest levels of security from your roller shutter garage door look out for the SBD logo and know that you’re in safe hands.
Research has indicated that Secured by Design usage can reduce burglary and car crime by up to 50% and criminal damage by 25%.

SWS were one of the first to introduce a Secured by design roller shutter garage door when they introduced the Seceuroglide Excel Roller to the market. This came by way of an upgrade from their Seceuroglide Classic Roller, it had wider guides that were more difficult to break, a floor mounted foot plate that held the guide rails more securely. The steel end plates on the garage door and the curtain webbing assembly system on the curtain also contribute to the security rating.

Since SWS introduced the Seceuroglide Excel a number of other companies have been looking to achieve the same Police Secured by Design status and in recent times the choice for the consumer has become even greater with Alluguard and Garage Door Systems being awarded SBD certification on the Alluguard 77 and Thermaroll 77 respectively. Both Alluguard and Garage Door Systems have also gone one step further and are offering an alarm system with the garage door, something that SWS Seceuroglide offer as an additional extra.

With all of the major European Garage Door Manufacturers fighting for top spot in the roller garage door market there has never been a better time to take advantage of the security upgrades that many now see as standard features on their range of Roller Shutter Garage Doors.
